Every Japan-Only Soda We Could Find, Ranked
Melon Fanta, Pepsi Shiso, peach Coke and the marble-bottle classic. We drank them all so you know which to grab first.
Japanese convenience stores rotate limited sodas faster than most brands launch products. Some flavors last a season. Some last a month. We chased down every Japan-only soda we could import and ranked them by one question: would you buy it twice?
1. Fanta Melon Soda
The undisputed champion. Bright, creamy muskmelon that tastes like the melon soda floats served in Japanese diners. It glows green, it photographs beautifully and it disappears from our warehouse within days of every restock.
2. Coca-Cola Peach
A seasonal drop timed to white peach season. The peach is soft rather than candy-sweet, and it sits on top of the cola instead of overpowering it. Excellent cold, better with ice.
3. Ramune Original
Not limited, but essential. The Codd-neck bottle with the marble stopper is half the experience. Push the marble, hear the click, and you are eight years old at a summer festival.
4. Pepsi Shiso
The most divisive bottle we stock. Shiso is a Japanese herb somewhere between mint and basil, and in cola form it is herbal, cooling and genuinely strange. Half the team loved it. The other half did not finish it. That is exactly why it is rare.
If you only try one, make it Melon Fanta. If you want a story, make it Shiso.
How to drink them
- Serve ice cold. Japanese sodas are formulated for vending-machine temperatures.
- Skip the ice for Ramune so the marble can rattle freely.
- Pair melon soda with salty chips. The contrast is the point.
